PICTURES FROM THE MEMORIAL BIRTHDAY PARTY 2005
Special thanks to Helen Moran for the pictures above.

Below is an email from Mike Roycroft, along with the letter he read at the Memorial Birthday Party.

Thanks, bud -- you know you're in my heart!

Today was so wonderful. Thanks for putting on such a great event. There's no doubt in my mind that Rusty would be proud!

I had actually been torn inside as to whether or not I should read that letter before I started playing. The crowd response made it all worthwhile and more than exceeded my expectations about how great it could get over.

Take care and I hope to talk to you again soon ...

THANK YOU, RUSTY MCHUGH

Thank you, Rusty.
Thank you for the songs and the smiles.
Thank you for the parties and the poetry disguised as comedy songs.
Thank you for taking it back to Walmart,
For bussing it back to Birmingham,
For Louisiana liplocks and seafood platters,
For D-W-eyes and purple moons,
For mermaids and manatees,
For all the girls named Lola,
Thank you, Rusty.

Thank you for helping with my promo cd the first time I ever met you.
Thank you for remembering my name the second time I met you.
Thank you for greeting me warmly and putting a smile on my face every time I met you.
Thank you.

It's not fair, Rusty.
It's not fair that you should have to lose your friend Mike Fincher like that.
It's not fair that you should have to spend a year putting a new band together in the wake of losing Mike.
It's not fair that you should get sick no sooner than you put the new band together.
It's not fair that some goddamned hurricane should come along and tear this town to pieces no sooner than you start feeling better.
It's not fair for the sickness to come back one last time just as you find the resolve to rally back from all of this.
It's just not fair.

But there's nothing I can do about that.
All that I can do is thank you.

Thank you, Rusty.
Thank you for the songs and the smiles.
Thank you for the parties and the poetry disguised as comedy songs.
Thank you, Rusty McHugh.
Thank you.
